Mission: SMTSU strives to complement the coursework of students through a four-pronged approach: sport industry education, networking, professional development, and personal development.
Initiatives: SMTSU and its members engage in profound, meaningful endeavors to further enhance its mission and give back to both the sports business and surrounding Philadelphia communities. Current initatives include:
- General Body Meetings
- A coming together of SMTSU members to discuss anything and everything in sports. Some meetings include guest speakers, while others are centralized around development activities.
- The Sports Complex (TSC)
- This! SMTSU's blog, designed to share student opinions and coursework on various facets of the sports industry. Click here for more information on TSC.
- The Sports Industry Ambassadors Program (SIAP)
- Created to give back to the local Philadelphia community, SIAP bridges the gap between learning and teaching. The program has Drexel students go in local Philadelphia middle and high schools to present on working in sports as a potential career choice.

Leadership: Entirely student run, SMTSU is led by a core group of student officers and a Faculty Advisor.
Kevin Rossi is a junior Drexel Sport Management major with minors in Communications and Business Administration. Since joining the SMTSU, Kevin has worked his way up the ladder to President. Currently, Kevin is also the Drexel editor for Philahoops.com. Kevin recently finished his second co-op with Temple University in their Athletic Communications office where he still writes football program feature stories and volunteers on game days.
Vice President - Kevin Murray
Kevin Murray is a Pre-Junior Sport Management Major at Drexel University, originally from Havertown, PA. He worked in the Drexel Sport Management Department as a Research Assistant focusing on the Penn State scandal, equity in collegiate sports, and Title IX. The research eventually led to publication in the Journal of Intercollegiate Sport and presentation at the NCAA Scholarly Colloquium at the NCAA Convention in January 2013. He completed his first co-op last spring with Drexel Athletics External Relations Department, where he still works part-time, and will be working his second co-op with the Drexel University Office of Institutional Advancement as a University Alumni Liaison. Kevin hopes this position and experience with Drexel Athletics will lead to a career in athletic development. He is currently a Resident Assistant in University Crossings, a member of the Undergraduate Student Government Association, and Vice President of SMTSU.
Treasurer - Lindrit Shkodra
Lindrit Shkodra is originally from Diber, Macedonia but lives in Maple Shade, New Jersey. He is a sophomore in the Sports Management program. Lindrit is currently the Treasurer of the Drexel Sports Management Student Union, serving last year as the General Understudy. He has work experience with Ron Jaworski’s Celebrity Golf Challenge and Ridgewell Catering at the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club.
Director of Marketing & Outreach - Greg Monforte
Greg Monforte is a junior at Drexel University studying Sport Management. originally from South Jersey, Greg currently works at Daddis Fight Campus in Philadelphia where he has administrative and marketing responsibilities. Greg is also the SMTSU Director of Marketing & Outreach. He is looking to get into the field of Athletic Development when he graduates. .
Director of Events - Matthew Puzio
Matt Puzio is a pre-junior in Drexel’s Sport Management program. From West Windsor, NJ, Matt is an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Matt has assisted Drexel professor, Dr. Ellen Staurowsky, in her Title IX research which resulted in a publication and a chance to speak at the 2013 NCAA Scholarly Colloquium. Matt has completed his first Co-op with Trenton Thunder.
Managing Editor of The Sports Complex - Alexa Fontanella
Alexa Fontanella is a freshman Sport Management major, coming to Drexel by way of New Jersey and has gotten involved from the day she arrived on-campus. She has volunteered for both the U.S. Open of Squash held at Drexel and Drexel's Midnight Madness which featured Childish Gambino. Fontanella has also been volunteering with the Drexel athletics department in their marketing department.
Secretary - Bennett Schiff
Bennett Schiff is a freshman in the Drexel Sport Management program, and one of the few members of the major from the powerful state of Rhode Island. He has volunteered for the U.S. Open of Squash held at Drexel as well as becoming a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. Prior to arriving on Drexel's campus, Schiff was very active in his local community with his synagogue.
