This NBA trade deadline was one of the craziest deadlines of all time. It seemed like it was going to be fairly quiet, but then all of a sudden a storm of trades happened. With the likes of Goran Dragic and Brandon Knight being two of the bigger names on the move, the Philadelphia 76ers decided to jump in quickly on the action but trading Michael Carter-Williams and K.J McDaniels. Some Sixer fans probably were there scratching their heads as to what has happened. You would think Michael Carter-Williams and K.J McDaniels would be two building blocks of this team but we know Sam Hinkie loves assets.

Public Relations and Rebuilding: Phillies vs. Sixers

As we sit a little over a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting and near the halfway point of the NBA season, the Sixers and the Phillies each find their respective immediate futures rather bleak. The Sixers sit at 7-30 as of Wednesday morning, and winter projections have the Phillies trending further below their 73-89 record from a season ago.


Despite the current mutual futility, it feels as if the Sixers are closer to a significant upswing than their neighbors across the street. Part of this feeling stems to some degree from the honesty and public relations savvy with which the respective managements have approach the rebuilds.

Sixer Fans: Brighter Days Ahead!

Will anyone be surprised if the Sixers actually fail to win 10 games this season? The Sixers are off to a blistering hot start going winless in their first 17 games. Obviously, the organization knows what they are doing by tanking it this badly. However there seems to be a lot of people who actually understand what they are trying to do. Tank this year and get another lottery pick. Then see where next year goes with Michael Carter-Williams, Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, hopefully KJ McDaniels, and another lottery pick. I only say hopefully for KJ McDaniels because he gambled on himself and is going to be a restricted free agent after this year instead of signing a multiyear contract. Right now he is playing his way to the top of the Rookie of the Year discussion. Brett Brown comes from a winning organization and has been around the San Antonio Spurs for so long that he is trying to mold these young Sixers like the Spurs. It will take time, but the Sixers are young and talented. It’s time to take a look forward on what Sixers fans should be excited about.

      In the 2013 NBA Draft 76ers fans saw All-Star point guard traded for the #6 overall pick that year (Nerlens Noel) and the need to fill the hole at point guard.  With their own pick that year, #11 overall, they filled that need with former Syracuse point guard, Michael Carter-Williams.  Since then the man known as "MCW" went on to win Rookie of the Year honors for the 76ers, and will be making his 2014/15 debut within the coming days, finally healthy after off-season shoulder surgery.

NBA Preseason: 5 BOLD Predictions

As the NBA season is set to begin in about a month let’s make five bold predictions. It will be fun to come back at the end of the season and see what a genius I am. No, I’m not going to sit here and tell you the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to make the NBA Finals because if they don’t win it all we can just throw all the blame on LeBron like we always do. Well here goes nothing.

Sixer Fans, Patience is a Virtue

With the third pick in the 2014 NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select….Joel Embiid. Another injured player Sixer fans are thinking. Before Joel Embiid broke his foot, he was almost a lock to be the number one overall pick leaving the Sixers with either Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins. Sixer fans are no stranger to having to wait for a top ten pick to be healthy. Last year it was Nerlens Noel being the number six pick sitting out the whole year but they had Michael Carter-Williams as well. This year, they have a bunch of second round picks instead.  It is reported that Embiid will be out five to eight months but no one will be surprised if he sits out the entire season.

NBA Draft Preview: The Future is Within Sight

Alright ladies and gents, the 2014 NBA Draft is now just a couple of days away.  Many basketball fans have been waiting, waiting, then the All-Star break happened, and then there was more waiting, the trade dead line, waiting and...well you get the picture.  For several team's fans, the only result that mattered was the number in the loss column.  As you know, this was the case for most if not all 76er fans in the 2013-2014 season.  And because of that, we have a Sixers' fan (me!) preview before the actual preview.  You may recognize this one: 

Are the 76ers "Tanking" or do they Actually Suck?

Year in and year out, fans witness teams in all leagues appear to "give up" or "not try to win."  With the 2014 NBA Draft appearing to be one of the strongest and deepest in recent times, it appeared from the beginning that some teams would attempt to purposely lose in order to have the opportunity to draft a talent like Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker.  This past week, the Philadelphia 76ers lost a franchise-record, twenty-one straight games.  The question is:  Are they tanking on purpose, or are they actually a bad team?

Atlantic Division Noteworthies: Knicks, Sixers

For most of the season the Atlantic Division has displayed some fairly bad basketball.  If it weren't for the Brooklyn Nets seriously turning their season around, and the Toronto Raptors surge following the trade of Rudy Gay, the Atlantic Division might have boasted five sub .500 teams. There are only five teams in the division. As it stands three teams, Philadelphia, Boston and New York will be finishing well below that mark. While unlikely the wheels could still fall off for the Nets.  Toronto looks safe, as they lead the division with a 37-28 record.  However, as the proverbial stretch-run to the playoffs begins in the NBA, it may come as a surprise that two of the below .500 teams from this very division have recently commanded NBA headlines.

This past Saturday, March 1, 2014, many former Philadelphia 76ers and a sell-out crowd gathered at the Wells Fargo Center for a celebration they'd never forget and a Sixer's game they might soon wish to forget.  One might ask, what could the Philadelphia 76ers possibly be celebrating in a season where they are 15-45 and second worst in the entire NBA.  Great question, but the celebration had nothing to do with anybody playing in the game that night.

A Legend Retires and Is his Former Team Really Tanking??

There were rumors prior to the NBA season started that an anonymous coach had admitted that they were planning to tank this year with the hopes of a high draft pick. Everyone immediately pointed to the Philadelphia 76ers. This was due to the Philadelphia 76ers trading away Jrue Holliday for Nerlens Noel and then reporting that Nerlens Noel would sit out the whole year. Not to mention that it is clear that the 76ers are in rebuild mode.

Last week Adidas released an advertisement spot for its newest basketball endeavor, the CrazyQuick shoe. The shoe which was released on May 1^st is being promoted by three of the NBA’s brightest, John Wall (Wizards), Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers), and Jrue Holiday (Sixers) with some assistance from hip-hop sensation, A$AP Rocky. 

Allen Iverson Bobble Head Night in Philadelphia

It’s been over three years since we have seen Allen Iverson play in the NBA. The Philadelphia Sixers played the Charlotte Bobcats Saturday Night in Allen Iverson Bobble Head Night. The Philadelphia Sixers have struggled selling tickets this year and playing the Bobcats isn’t going to help anyone sell tickets. However, the stands were pact Saturday night as fans came to see on of their heroes one more time.

Above the Rim: What could have been

The 2012-2013 season was loaded with possibilities for the Philadelphia 76ers. After defeating the #1 seeded Derrick Rose-less Bulls in the first round of the playoffs last year, they brought the Celtics to seven games before being knocked out. As a team without a conventional “star,” the Sixers surprised fans by performing well with a solid nucleus of players who were great defensively. They could only get better from here, right?
