Tim Thomas Blows Off White House Visit

On Monday January 23, Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas elected not to attend the White House when the Bruins were honored by President Obama for winning the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. The reasons of Thomas' decision were unknown by many until he decided to post a public comment on his Facebook page. Thomas noted how he was frustrated and disappointed with the government at all levels and with all political parties in the US. Thomas' decision was frowned upon by many while others simply had no opinion on the matter. For more information on the story, follow this link to the CBS story. What is your take on this situation?

  1. It's a free country and everybody has the right to believe in whatever they want. I just think it's a little disrespectful to cast a shadow on the event for his teammates. Clearly the media is talking about this and not Obama celebrating the Bruins' championship. In other news, will Tim Thomas get any Republican votes in the upcoming elections...? Kidding!

  2. I agree that Thomas has the right to skip out on the White House, and I agree that he has the right to stand up for what he believes.

However, if he thinks the government is so bad, why did he wait until this moment to make a "stand?" It sounds like he has had this beef with the government for a while now, so why has he not brought this up before?

I think he was just trying to make a scene and/or garner unnecessary attention towards himself.
