Friday's 5 Thoughts

After another eventful week in sports and in the industry, I would be honored to start your day of right with five thoughts straight from yours truly. Away we go:

1. Hubba-Hubba Bubba! Bubba Watson took home the green jacket at the Masters last weekend. Is he actually at the top of the golf world to stay or will he wallow away?

2. Joe Vitt has been announced as the Saint's interim HC. Still, he is suspended the first six games of the season. Can we stop the bickering about the past and focus on the football? The NFL still expects to hand down disciplinary action to players for their role in the bounty program. Will all this Saints talk and suspensions overtake the yearly spectacle that is the NFL Draft?

3. The NHL playoffs are here and my oh my, overtime is the new black in the National Hockey League. So many exciting games and superb play. Can the playoffs maintain this level of excitement or will it eventually fizzle?

4. MLS expansion talk is heating up. The league, now at 19 teams, is looking to expand to the neat and tidy number of 20 and even beyond. MLS President Mark Abbott said the league expects another team in the New York market to be team number 20, while expansion in the southeast is likely for expansion beyond. But, who will pay the $100 million buy-in price for a second team in the New York market?

5. The NBA playoffs are right around the corner. Who is gearing for a run and who is in line to get run-over?

Ah, so many questions and mysteries. It's the beauty of sports that leaves us all guessing. Think I missed something or want to throw in your thoughts? Tell me in the comments section and perhaps I will even weigh-in.

  1. Bubba Watson has been on the cusp of a big victory for a little while now so I think he is here to stay! I wouldn't say he will be a top 5 golfer with any kind of consistency but he will be a threat at almost all tournaments. He just lacks a little bit of the technical game to stay at the top, however you can make quite a name for yourself that way. Just ask Lee Trevino and Seve Ballesteros.

The whole Saints situation is still kind of tough to wrap my head around. I just think it's funny that they will have an interim interim head coach. It's like the secretary of state being president.

    Go Flyers!

Who is going to pay $100 million to become the NY Mets/Red-Headed Step Child of the MLS?

Unfortunately, I think the 76ers are in line to get run over. They have been playing some poor basketball against the top teams and they are looking at a match-up with the Bulls or the Heat in round one... if they get in at this point.

You forgot that baseball season is in full swing! It's the greatest time of the year.

  2. I'm agree, but golf is still struggling. Golf is missing the young demographic and it needs a young American male, perceived as hip, for the game to grow further among children.

It will be interesting to see how this Saints drama plays out. Also, we cannot forget the question is still there with Drew Brees. Could the Saints become last years Colts?

    "Go Flyers!" - No.

Someone will pay $100 million for a second team in NY and that team will play in or around the city. The Red Bulls play in Harrison, NJ. Not too many fans travel from the city of upstate NY to watch a Red Bulls game. But, someone will pay that price tag, with the growth of soccer in the U.S. The REAL question is where will they play because the MLS has given preference to locations and ownership groups who has definitive plans in place with the city to build a soccer-specific stadium.

I think the 76ers can get their act together and I know for a fact the team is raring to finish out the last few games. Will be interesting to see what happens, but I'm pushing for a run.

Yeah, baseball is up and running. It is in its prime during summer months after the NHL and NBA playoffs end.
