John Oliver Going All-In on Sports

Not too long ago, John Oliver was filling in for Jon Stewart on Comedy Central's The Daily Show. The 37-year-old Englishman was met with critical acclaim for his relief duty and promptly used the momentum to begin his own gig. Less than two months into his own show on HBO, Last Week Tonight, Oliver has again been met with critical acclaim. And some of his now legendary rants have focused on a topic near and dear to us: the sports world.

Oliver's first of the sporting rants was again FIFA in the lead up to the World Cup in Brazil. Clearly torn between loving soccer and the World Cup yet hating FIFA, Oliver's 13-plus minute take down of soccer's international organization and its enigmatic head Sepp Blatter is epic. Perfectly sums up the distress between wanted to love the World Cup and despising the FIFA way of doing business

Next, in his latest episode, Oliver took a swipe at the nickname of the Washington football team. It spins a recent public service announcement that ran during the NBA Finals into a satirical masterpiece. If you can't stand owner Dan Snyder and the PR spin that the team tries to put on the defense of the name, then you'll be on the floor laughing at this one.

With the O'Bannon vs. NCAA case raging on, I'm hoping Oliver touches on it. What could be next? The NFL and concussions? Who knows. But what we do know is that we all want more John Oliver talking about sports.
