NFL Quarterly Review

It seems like only yesterday the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys were kicking off the season.  We are now four games into the season and ¼ of the way done.  There have been so many huge storylines that I could cover for my quarterly review but I will stick to the biggest surprise and disappointing teams so far.

There are three teams through four weeks who are undefeated: The Houston Texans, the Atlanta Falcons, and the biggest surprise of the season the Arizona Cardinals.  No one expected much for the Cardinals this year that is why this 4-0 start is so impressive.  Their offense has not played well so far this season but the defense has carried them.  They have held every opponent under 22 points and let up only 18 to the New England Patriots and 6 to the Philadelphia Eagles.  The NFC West this year looks to be pretty competitive and Arizona’s hot start will help them out a lot in trying to win the division.  We will see how good the Cardinals are when they take on the San Francisco 49ers for the first time.

No team has been a bigger disappointment this year than the 0-4 New Orleans Saints.  The Saints are coming off a solid year last year but all of the off season problems have seem too caught up with them.  Drew Brees has been playing well this year but his defense is giving him no support at all.  They are allowing 32.5 points per game and have not given up less than 25 this year.  We all know their offense is capable of putting up ridiculous numbers every week but having to score more than 30 points a game every week is a challenge.   This could be a very long season for the Saints with their next couple games being against strong teams.

Overall it has been a great start to the 2012 season.  It has had its ups and downs with the whole replacement refs issue but now that the issue is resolved the rest of the season should be even better.  I am hoping my favorite team the Houston Texans can continue their impressive start and that the rest of the season has many great games and amazing performances.
