S4SC: Drexel SMTSU Announces 2nd Annual Sport for Social Change Conference

The Drexel Sport Management Student Union (SMTSU) is pleased to announce details for the second annual Sport for Social Change Conference.

Capitalizing on the success of the first edition of the conference last October, the SMTSU will hold the Sport for Social Change Conference on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held in the Academic Bistro on the sixth floor of the Paul Peck Problem Solving and Research Center (aka Academic Building) on the corner of 33rd and Race St.

Holding the Sport for Social Change Conference in the Academic Bistro offers a unique opportunity to bring together all of the disciplines housed in the new Center for Hospitality and Sport Management. Students from Drexel’s culinary arts and hospitality programs will be preparing and serving all three of the meals during the event: breakfast, lunch and appetizers.

Just like last year, the event will be FREE and open to all.

State of the Student Union: Spring 2014

The weather is finally warming up for good -- I think -- and so is the Sport Management Student Union's schedule of events. Winter may have stolen a major event from us last term, but we are back and better than ever with the turning of the season. The SMTSU and I are proud to present to you the SMTSU Spring Series.

SMTSU Networking Night - POSTPONED

Unfortunately due to the pending snow storm and Drexel University cancelling all classes and activities on Thursday Feb. 13, 2014, the Drexel SMTSU will need to postpone the scheduled Networking Night and Landmark Americana fundraiser.

We appreciate everybody's patience with the matter as we awaited official word from the University. Stay tuned for updates regarding the Networking Night's rescheduling and big news upcoming for the spring term.

The Drexel SMTSU's next scheduled event will be the week 8 general body meeting on Thursday Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. The theme of the meeting will be announced within the next week.

Enjoy your snow day and stay safe!

State of the Student Union: August 2013

The last three years have seen the Drexel Sport Management Student Union grow from merely an idea in the imagination of one ambitious sport management student to a burgeoning student organization on the ever-improving Drexel University campus.  As it goes, the SMTSU grows as the Drexel sport management program grows as the University as a whole grows.  With growth comes change, and as you read last week, there are changes coming to the SMTSU.

Storify: An Evening with Ethan Zohn

On Tuesday, May 28th, Ethan Zohn spoke with students from Drexel University in a joint event between The Good Idea Fund and the Drexel SMTSU. Ethan Zohn is the winner of Survivor: Africa, founder of Grassroot Soccer, former professional soccer player, and two-time cancer survivor.

Ethan's story is one of survival but also bettering yourself as a human being. His presentation was an emotional rollercoaster through his life experiences and an intrinsic look at ourselves at the same time.  Ethan's words were for much more than just Sport Management students as they ring true in any position of leadership across the board.

Thank you Ethan Zohn for touching the Drexel community.
