State of the Student Union: Spring 2014

The weather is finally warming up for good -- I think -- and so is the Sport Management Student Union's schedule of events. Winter may have stolen a major event from us last term, but we are back and better than ever with the turning of the season. The SMTSU and I are proud to present to you the SMTSU Spring Series.

In the past, the SMTSU had planned one event at a time -- some big and some small. This time, we are switching up our approach and offering three different event experiences in a four-day span from May 7 to May 10.

The SMTSU Spring Series will kick off Wednesday May 7 with a fundraiser and networking event at Landmark Americana. We hope to draw students, faculty and local professionals out for an evening of food, drinks and simply catching up. In turn, the funds that Landmark has agreed to kick back to the SMTSU will help us improve our events going forward beginning with the fall's second annual Sport for Social Change Conference. We are still working on the exact time of the Landmark event, so please stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Second in line will be an opportunity for students to have their resumes critiqued by career development experts as well as have a professional head-shot taken. Mark Gress, who is currently at Arcadia University and formerly at Drexel University's SCDC, will be one of the resume reviewers in attendance. The professional head-shots will give students a chance to have a more official photo to use on social media profiles, LinkedIn and other personal branding opportunities. Head-shots and resume critiques will take place on Thursday May 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. in One Drexel Plaza Seminar Room 004.

Finally, the grand finale of the SMTSU Spring Series will be a wiffle ball tournament held on Saturday May 10 at 6 p.m. on Buckley Field. Last spring, we held a successful soccer tournament, but this year we wanted to give a whole new athletic skill-set a chance to shine. Winners of the wiffle ball tournament will be awarded an SMTSU prize pack.

As always, for updates on SMTSU events and initiatives, follow the SMTSU on Twitter @DrexelSMTSU and on Facebook. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the SMTSU at DrexelSMTSU@gmail.com.

Here's to a great spring term!
