State of the Student Union: SMTSU Adds Three Officers

As 2013 turns to 2014 and we put our New Year's resolutions into action, the Sport Management Student Union is also striving to get better. To begin 2014, the SMTSU has added three new officers to join Kevin Rossi (President), Kevin Murray (Vice President), Lindrit Shkodra (Treasurer), Mike Proska (Secretary), and Greg Monforte (Director of Marketing and Outreach).

The SMTSU would like to welcome Matt Puzio, Alexa Fontanella, and Bennett Schiff to their new positions as officers.

Puzio joins the SMTSU as the new Director of Events. Coming to Drexel by way of New Jersey, Puzio has had industry experience with the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees AA affiliate) for his first co-op. With the Thunder, Puzio held a wide range of responsibilities in both the front office and on gamedays. Prior to working with the Thunder, Puzio did research on collegiate athletics with Drexel Sport Management professor (and SMTSU Faculty Advisor) Dr. Ellen Staurowsky.

Fontanella joins the SMTSU as the new and first ever Managing Editor of The Sports Complex. Over the past two years, The Sports Complex has seen tremendous growth as a definitive voice in the sports business landscape. Fontanella also comes to Drexel by way of New Jersey and has gotten involved from the day she arrived on-campus. She has volunteered for both the U.S. Open of Squash held at Drexel and Drexel's Midnight Madness which featured Childish Gambino. Fontanella has also been volunteering with the Drexel athletics department in their marketing department.

Schiff joins the SMTSU as the new General Understudy. Making his way to Drexel from Rhode Island, Schiff has worked on putting together a formidable resume. He has volunteered for the U.S. Open of Squash held at Drexel as well as becoming a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. Prior to arriving on Drexel's campus, Schiff was very active in his local community with his synagogue.

The SMTSU is extremely excited to have Puzio, Fontanella, and Schiff aboard for 2014 and into the future. With them, the SMTSU's future is bright and the potential for growth is limitless.

Stay tuned for details on the SMTSU's winter term event, Sports Industry Networking Night, to be held on Thursday Feb. 13.
