Unknown Tip for Career Success

Many of the most successful people in the world of business do something daily without the public knowing it; they work out. Some CEOs wake up extra early simply to head to the gym or go for a run. Others go later at night after a long day of work, but either way, they find time to work out. There have been studies that this relates directly to career success.

There are many benefits of working out daily including risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, but also it helps one focus, their mood, and energizes them. After completing a workout, it is easier to focus due endorphins that are released in your brain. From personal experience, I have found that after going to they gym, it is easier for me to study or work on a paper. A leading executive search company surveyed more than 1,300 executives who earn $100,000 or more annually. When asked to describe their perceptions of weight and work, 75 percent said good physical fitness is "critical for career success at the executive level." Seventeen percent, by contrast, said staying in shape is "a nice goal, but secondary to fiscal fitness."

As you can see, employers know that being physically fit is important to rise up to the executive level of any company. Also, Fit people tend to have better eating habits and miss fewer days at work due to a higher resistance to illness. And with competition continually increasing in every industry, companies are now rewarding employees and managers who miss less work and produce more. Finally, results have shown that time management skills have been improved as did mental sharpness and work performance by those who perform physical fitness daily.

As you can see, I am trying to get across the point that if you want to rise up in a company and look better than your competition, one way to do so is to keep physically fit. It simply has a lot more benefits than one realizes and can relate directly to the success of your career. I am interested to hear what others have to say about this so please leave your comments with your thoughts.

  1. Great post, Mike! It is a fascinating correlation as you'd think that people who spent more time in the office working would be more successful, but with just a daily workout of an hour or so, you can be so much more productive with the rest of your day!

  2. Exactly! I actually read an article about the CEO for Starwood Hotels and he wakes up every morning at 5 to train for marathons. Talk about an over-achiever!

  3. I completely agree. This one friend of mine was on the soccer team, basketball team, and tennis team all in one year and was top in the class. He was a legend.
